How to Step Up Your Jacket Game this Winter

Winter is, well, almost here! So let’s talk about jackets! There are so many different pieces that can keep you not only warm and cosy but still look stylish. From leather to polyester, the biker to the bomber, jackets come in a wide variety to choose from. Which is a blessing, of course, but can be a little overwhelming too. In today’s blog, we’ll be discussing some of the most popular jackets that everyone can wear with ease. Let’s get right to it!

Leather Jackets

The holy grail of jackets! This is a guaranteed wardrobe staple for both men and women. You can pair it with almost any type of outfit to give it an edgy or Rockstar vibe. There are various styles of leather jackets, the biker jacket being my favourite. Colour-wise, you guessed it, black is the most essential and versatile; followed by, you guessed it again, brown. There are various other colours out there that you can try to express the more fun and quirky side of your personality.

Check out this classic black biker jacket by Mango. Made from 100% leather, it makes fashion affordable! You can wear this with literally anything! The safest way to rock this jacket would be to wear it with jeans (distressed or not, doesn’t matter), a casual tee or hoodie, and boots. You can even edge up your classier, more business casual looks by wearing this jacket. Substitute them for a blazer with your formal trousers or dress. Now, if you’re not afraid of colour, then try out this yellow biker jacket by Michael Kors. It can add a pop of colour and warmth to your otherwise neutral outfit, or you can colour block it with purple. Now, if you don’t want the real deal, check out this vegan option by Free People. It is a faux snakeskin leather in brown, which will be a perfect addition to your wardrobe.

Denim Jackets

The denim jacket is another wardrobe must-have. I agree it’s more of a spring essential, but we’re going to discuss it anyway! While the leather jackets make your outfits edgy, the denim jackets cool things down and give you a more effortless and casual vibe. Again, you can pair them up with almost anything. Of course, blue is the most popular choice of colour, followed by black and brown. However, there various other colours available such as red, pink, white, green, yellow, etc. I am personally a fan of the more personalised jackets that show off your individuality. You can always make these jackets unique to you with the help of paint, patches or some intricate thread work.

This distressed denim jacket by Zara is perfect for almost anyone! The colour is plain and classic enough for people who want to keep it minimal. However, the distressed detail adds more visual interest and a little bit more edgy. It is also a very good base if you want to personalise it as per your preference. You can throw them on for a casual day out with friends. Pair them up with a flowy dress or skirt, jeans, trousers, shorts, leggings, jeggings, whatever it may be, this denim jacket has got you covered (get it?). Wear them over hoodies, sweatshirts and turtlenecks to keep you warm. Sneakers, primarily white, are the most common footwear choice, but you can pair them up with anything such as sandals, boots, and heels.

Utility Jackets

Initially developed to keep farmhands warm, utility jackets have come a long way. Not only does it offer protection from weather adversities, but it also has multiple pockets to store tools and other items. I would describe the general vibe of this jacket as more rustic and comfy.   However, I’ve seen fashion bloggers pull this off with some highly sophisticated outfits. Army green is definitely the most commonly worn colour, though brown, tan, and camo are popular as well. These jackets are just perfect for fall!

If you’re buying one for the 1st time, try out this army green utility jacket by Gap. Pair it up with your fall essentials, casual shirt, jeans and sneakers or boots. It goes well with patterned tops; common patterns include horizontal stripes, gingham, and flannel. If you’re looking for a lighter colour, check out the same product in tan. You can go monochrome with an all beige. Or try the camo option of the same product for more added detail. They are edgier and can be paired up with ripped jeans, leather pants, and graphic tees.

Bomber Jackets

The jacket has its roots in the military. It was initially made to keep soldiers warm in cockpits. They ultimately paved their way to the general consumer market by popular demand. I mean, how could it not? They’re a trend that has never gone out of style and hopefully never will. Popularised by movie stars and musicians, it has only grown in demand. They have, however, changed in style since the early 1900s. They are available in a multitude of colours, materials, textures, and patterns.

Check out these hooded bomber jackets by Hollister. They are available in neutral colours such as black and army green, designed with soft twill fabric, fleece hood and cuffs, and jersey lining. They are more utilitarian in style, with multiple pockets. Elevate your athleisure look by pairing them up with these jackets. Or use them to add an edge to your turtlenecks paired up with casual denim or skirt outfits. (I love some edge!)

Windbreaker Jackets

They are essentially what their name suggests, wind-resistant jackets that can also keep you away from light rain. They are more lightweight since they’re not designed to withstand very low temperatures or heavy rain. So make sure to wear them with thicker clothing to keep you warm in winters. They are mostly available in bright colours and patterns. They definitely make a statement with their neon, pastel, and bright colours. The wackier, the better. Highly popular in the 80s and 90s they are making a comeback now since 2018.

Make sure to check out these windbreaker jackets by Hollister. They are made of 100% polyester, keeping it light. They are perfect if you’re just starting out since the design is simple and the colours are primary. Pair them with your athleisure outfits, jeans, crop tops, turtlenecks, tank tops, tuck them in, leave them out, no matter what you do, you’re guaranteed to look effortlessly stylish.
